There are three essential components: your device (the hardware wallet), your PIN (which unlocks the device), and your recovery phrase (a secret backup used only during device recovery). Ledger Login is secure because private keys never leave the device — every transaction must be authorized physically on the device screen.

Step-by-step: Signing in safely

1. Power on your Ledger device and enter your PIN directly on the device.

2. Open Ledger Live and connect the device via USB or Bluetooth (mobile).

3. Allow the device to communicate with Ledger Live when prompted on the device screen.

4. Select the account you wish to manage; any transaction must be confirmed physically on the device.

• Never share your 24-word recovery phrase — Ledger will never ask for it in the app.

• Use a strong PIN and change it if you suspect it has been observed.

• Verify the device screen for transaction details before confirming; attackers can’t change what appears on your Ledger device screen.

Troubleshooting common issues

If Ledger Live does not detect your device, try these quick fixes:

• Ensure the cable and USB port are working — try a different cable or port.

• Unlock the device by entering the PIN and open the Ethereum/BTC app if you’re accessing a specific account.

• Restart Ledger Live and your device. On mobile, toggle Bluetooth and re-pair the device.

• Check for firmware updates via Settings > Manager in Ledger Live.

What to do if you’re locked out
